We want to make sure that all our hosts are aware of all the taxes that may be included in their bookings. We understand that this can be confusing, so we have broken down the taxes and fees into four categories. Please read on to learn more about each category and how they may affect your booking.
Collected & Remitted by Channel
If you see this category listed on your booking, it means that the taxes were collected from guest by the booking channel and then remitted directly to the tax authorities. This means that you do not need to worry about paying these taxes separately, as they have already been taken care of by the booking channel.
Collected by Channel & Remitted by Host
In this category, the taxes were collected from you by the booking channel, but instead of being remitted directly to the tax authorities, they were transferred to the host. The host will then remit the taxes to the authorities on your behalf. You may still see these taxes listed on your booking, but you do not need to worry about paying them separately.
Collected & Remitted by Host
If you see this category listed on your booking, it means that the taxes were collected directly from you by the host at check-in. The host will then remit these taxes to the authorities on your behalf. You may be required to pay these taxes separately, so please check with your host for more information.
Paid by Channel & Remitted by Host
In this category, the taxes were not collected from you by the booking channel, but they were transferred to the host. The host will then remit these taxes to the authorities on your behalf. You may still see these taxes listed on your booking, but you do not need to worry about paying them separately.
Setting Up Taxes on Booking Channels
To ensure seamless tax handling, access the settings within each booking channel and define the appropriate taxes. These settings should consider local accommodation and environmental tax requirements, as Hosthub relies on them to pull accurate amounts for reservations. Additionally, replicate these settings in Hosthub to maintain proper calculation and reconciliation of taxes. This process is crucial for channels that do not support every type of tax category. Additionally, taxes collected by booking channels are not directly managed within Hosthub. These taxes are pulled directly from the breakdown of each reservation as specified by the respective channels, so ensuring accurate tax configuration on those platforms (e.g., Airbnb, Booking.com) is essential.
Booking Details and Edit View
In the booking details and edit view, we have added some new sections to help you better view and manage the taxes included in your booking.
Booking Value Breakdown
In this section, you will see the amounts related to taxes and fees that are included in your booking value. These will be displayed in a single line instead of a separate row, making it easier for you to see the total amount.
Extra Taxes Collected by Channel
In the Price Details section, you will now see an Extra Taxes Collected by Channel section. This will show the total taxes that are exclusive in the booking value and were collected from you by the channel. It will also include a breakdown that shows the details and amount of each tax, along with information on who is responsible for remitting the taxes to the authorities - the host or the channel.
Extra Taxes Collected by Host at Property
In the Price Details section, you will also see an Extra Taxes Collected by Host at Property section. This will show the total taxes that are exclusive in the booking value and were collected from you by the host at the property. It will also include a breakdown that shows the details and amount of each tax, which will be remitted by the host in all cases.
Extra Taxes Sponsored by Channel
The final section in the Price Details section is the Extra Taxes Sponsored by Channel section. This will show the total taxes that are exclusive in the booking value and were sponsored by the channel. It will also include a breakdown that shows the details and amount of each tax, which will be remitted by the host in all cases. Additionally, we have added a list of taxes remitted by the channel in the Host section of the booking page.
Adjusting or Removing Taxes
If you find that some taxes are not applicable or need adjustments:
Note that Hosthub cannot directly remove taxes collected by channels as these are managed within the respective platform’s system.
For modifications or disputes, consult the help center or support team of the channel in question for assistance.
Offline Bookings
If you have made an offline booking, you will only see the Extra Taxes Collected by Host at Property field listed on your booking. This is because the booking channel was not involved in the collection or remittance of taxes for your booking.
Total Value and Payout calculations
The Total Value calculation for your booking will be the Booking value, plus all applied fees, plus all the Extra Taxes. This will give you the total booking value that your guest paid for their booking.
The Total Payout for your booking will be the Total Value minus the Service Fee Host and the Payment Charges, minus taxes Collected & Remitted by Channel. This is the total amount that the host will receive in his bank account for each booking.
Coordination Between Platforms
Effective tax management requires consistency and accuracy in setting tax details on both Hosthub and booking channels. Following the recommended procedures ensures that reservations reflect correct tax amounts and comply with local regulations.
